Scholten & Baijings have designed a clock and poster collection especially for Ikea’s PS Collection 2014. Small space living is the overall theme of the collection as a whole. In addition to practical and functional applications, Scholten & Baijings studied how colour and graphics can be applied to make a small interior more pleasant.
The poster collection consists of four posters in three paper formats, and combined with each other they can create different compositions. The posters are much like views that give rooms an extra dimension. The quality and treatment of the paper – using colour, (matt) gloss, gradients, grids and embossed sections – turn the posters into playful, layered products that bear the distinctive Scholten & Baijings signature.
Scholten & Baijings designed three clocks: two different-sized wall clocks and one table clock.
‘We did not want to design clocks that were purely practical and functional time pieces. Our designs are minimalist, but with a poetic twist. The large hand is screen printed onto a transparent, patterned revolving disc. We want the clock to be an ornament for the home, just like a watch can be an ornament for the body.’
